Application Procedure Supplementary Information Needed Tuition and Cost

Applications for 2012/13 are now being accepted.

Applicants must:

  • Have at least three years of work experience in private, public or non-profit setting.
  • Have completed a recognized four-year Honours Bachelor’s degree.

In case applicants do not meet these application requirements, please feel to contact: sig.admissions@uwaterloo.ca

Application procedure:

Applying to UW is a two-step process:

  1. Complete your on-line application and pay a non-refundable application fee.
  2. Upload your application materials using Applicant Quest (Waterloo’s self-service application system). We will email you within a few business days of submitting your on-line application with instructions for using Quest. We recommend that you check the your junk mail folder for our emails; many email programs put automatically generated mailings like UW’s in junk mail folders. To avoid this you can add gradapp@uwaterloo.ca to your address book. See the ‘Materials’ page under Admissions in your Student Centre on Quest listing the items you need to submit to apply to the program(s) you specified on your on-line application.

Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 (Canadian funds) must be submitted with each application. Applications will not be processed without the application fee.

Supplementary Information to be uploaded on Applicant Quest:

Transcripts: Copies of unofficial academic transcripts, with an explanation of the grading scheme (possibly on the back of the transcript- this is especially important for non-Canadian universities) from each post-secondary institution that you have attended are to be uploaded on Applicant Quest.

References: These will be completed and submitted electronically by the referees you list on your online application. The University will contact the referees directly by email. Two letters of reference are required. Although the university generally prefers to have at least one academic reference, we recognize that applicants to this program may no longer have easy access to such references. Professional references will be accepted.

Supplementary Information Form: This will be uploaded on Applicant Quest. Please provide a 1-2 page Statement of Interest or purpose explaining why you want to pursue the Graduate Diploma in Social Innovation and the particular theme area (mental health, aging or newcomers to Canada) that you are particularly interested in pursuing.

Resume/CV: This will be uploaded on Applicant Quest. Please include your past academic and professional experiences, research involvements, and, if applicable, any publications you have authored or co-authored.

Permanent Resident/Landed Immigrant: If you were not born in Canada, please upload a copy of your card or form (IMM 1000) on Applicant Quest.

Sponsorship Letter: Applicants receiving a scholarship or sponsorship from an external agency must upload a copy of the agency letter, detailing the duration, and level of funding. Additional information about each of these uploads is available on the online application web site (http://www.grad.uwaterloo.ca/students/applyingonline.asp).

Funding: Bursaries are available for some of the eligible participants of this program. If you would require a bursary to cover some of the tuition costs, please indicate this at the end of your personal statement.

Further information is available from the University of Waterloo Graduate Studies Office
